Allow Fraternities to Disassociate from their National Orgs

Davidson should offer fraternities the option to disassociate from their national organizations and convert to a role as a Davidson social group while maintaining their spot on Patterson Court, assuming a role similar to eating houses. With this option, Davidson would gain better control over these organizations while allowing the organizations to functionally continue after disassociating from national organizations,... more »

Rice Cooker in Commons

I was lucky enough to attend a boarding school during my high school experience. At times, the food got repetitive, but there were always staples that allowed students to make their own variations of plates. One of those staples was white rice. One of our stations during lunch and dinner was a large rice cooker that was open to students. For many students, rice had always been a staple; having it as an option for our... more »

Program in the Publishing Arts

This interdisciplinary program would allow students to learn about print and digital publishing, to understand its history and and imagine its future, and to approach it as both scholars and makers. Digital publishing is in its infancy, with possibilities for immersive, multimedia, 3D, VR, and AR storytelling still emerging. Despite the power and promise of the digital realm, print publishing isn't going away. The birth... more »

The Good Life (an interdisciplinary, student-driven course)

The proposed course has precedents in the wildly popular "happiness" psychology courses at Yale and Harvard, the "Design Your Life" course at Stanford's D-School, and Davidson's own "Living the Liberal Arts" course. Unlike the Yale and Harvard happiness courses, this new course would be interdisciplinary, and unlike Stanford's Design Your Life course, it would have a strong grounding in academic research and writing.... more »

Leveraging technology to increase equity in the add/drop period In Reserve

There are several issues with our current add/drop system in which students try to add courses after WebTree has run.
(1) When the system opens early in the morning, students report website/browser crashing, and cannot get the courses they want in the first minute.
(2) For spots that open up later in the week, it creates pressure for students to constantly check course availability throughout the week.
(3) Most troubling,... more »

Students Should have access to teacher evaluations In Reserve

At the end of every semester, each class conducts teacher evaluations. I believe that these should be public to students as it will assist in students picking their classes. Students already do this informally with ratemyprofessor.com. Instead of fighting this, Davidson should realize there is a higher demand for teacher reviews and help.

Career Center Paying for Linkedin Premium Accounts

I think the Carrer Center should pay for the option for sophomores, juniors and seniors to have LinkedIn premium accounts while at Davidson. I think it should be an opt-in program, as somebody would specifically have to go to the career center and ask for this. Networking is the #1 way to secure jobs and Linkedin Premium has significant advantages such as more messaging, profile views and you can see different profiles.... more »

Reunion Cost Solution

My office oversees reunion fundraising efforts. We have high class-affinity at Davidson and Reunion Weekend is one of flagship engagement opportunities for bringing alumni back to campus and encouraging them to reevaluate their philanthropic relationship with the college every five years. Last year, the 12 reunion classes brought in $3,383,905 for The Fund for Davidson (~8% of total FFD dollars), $7,498,561 in overall... more »

Davidson Barbecue Studies In Reserve

Slow-cooked pork has a rich tradition in North Carolina. Debates about favorite styles may divide us, but gathering over barbecue has long united communities. At a time when some of the legendary BBQ joints in North Carolina are shutting down, Davidson Barbecue Studies could be an exploration of how this special food has shaped the historical, sociological and political fabric of the region. There is even an opportunity... more »

Campus Delivery Services In Reserve

Campus delivery positions
My idea stems from being able to have Davis Cafe orders delivered on campus to tables/dorms/study spaces for a small fee. I would imagine it to be very popular, especially to disabled students, should it be on an easily accessible platform and be able to be charged to CatCard balances. This would be a good integration into the online ordering at Davis Cafe. A routing platform could be utilized... more »
