Reunion Cost Solution

My office oversees reunion fundraising efforts. We have high class-affinity at Davidson and Reunion Weekend is one of flagship engagement opportunities for bringing alumni back to campus and encouraging them to reevaluate their philanthropic relationship with the college every five years. Last year, the 12 reunion classes brought in $3,383,905 for The Fund for Davidson (~8% of total FFD dollars), $7,498,561 in overall... more »

Davidson Barbecue Studies In Reserve

Slow-cooked pork has a rich tradition in North Carolina. Debates about favorite styles may divide us, but gathering over barbecue has long united communities. At a time when some of the legendary BBQ joints in North Carolina are shutting down, Davidson Barbecue Studies could be an exploration of how this special food has shaped the historical, sociological and political fabric of the region. There is even an opportunity... more »

Campus Delivery Services In Reserve

Campus delivery positions
My idea stems from being able to have Davis Cafe orders delivered on campus to tables/dorms/study spaces for a small fee. I would imagine it to be very popular, especially to disabled students, should it be on an easily accessible platform and be able to be charged to CatCard balances. This would be a good integration into the online ordering at Davis Cafe. A routing platform could be utilized... more »

Bench Press/Squat Rack in New Dorm, Baker, or Union In Reserve

I would like for the school to add bench presses/squat racks to the school gyms. Compound movements like bench presses and squat racks are essential exercises for muscle growth and athletic performance. Currently these exercises are off limits for non-varsity athletes at Davidson. It makes it difficult to get quality workouts in given many workout programs are centered around compound lifting. All of our peer institutions... more »

Implement RFID tags in CatCards and replace readers

I propose replacing the magnetic stripe cards, which are the current version of the CatCard, with a RFID tagged CatCard. It would be more convenient to simply bring our CatCards into proximity with the reader as opposed to swiping. RFID tagged cards also work even when covered by something. Magnetic stripe cards also deteriorate faster due to the friction, scratches, dirt, or damage caused to the card by swiping which... more »

Pave the path to Wall In Reserve

The circle of greenery in front of Wall is pretty, but people walk through it instead of around it, killing the grass. Can we make a stone path on the dead grass so people only walk here, saving more grass and making the whole thing more aesthetic? It would look similar to the stone path that cuts through the grass in between the Lily Gallery and the library.

Winter Term

Students could take 1-2 classes during the winter break holiday, beginning after Christmas and ending a couple of days before spring semester resumes. Courses could be "fun" courses with topics similar to writing classes now, or could be more serious courses that could count towards a major/minor/WoK requirement.

Proposal to reform the JEC requirement for STEM majors.

We propose a reformation to the JEC requirement that allows STEM majors to participate in an independent study. This independent study would include STEM majors traveling to marginalized communities in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region and participating in tutoring programs in underfunded/understaffed high schools in the communities. We believe that this independent study will fulfill the requirements and intentions of... more »

Combine Homecoming and Family Weekend

Family weekend is a weekend that truly showcases Davidson in its best light. Combining Homecoming and Family Weekend would allow more people to experience Davidson at its prime. Family weekend programming could continue as it has been in the past. College Relations would market the combined weekend to all alumni – putting an emphasis on alumni with kids. Allowing more families to enjoy the offerings throughout the weekend.... more »

App for booking study rooms

There are study rooms across campus, and many of them are first-come-first-serve, or they need to be booked through an individual. If there were an app through which you could both book rooms and see which rooms were currently available, it would lower the barriers to booking and make it easier for students to find study rooms and faculty/staff to find meeting places for small groups.

More Meal Plan Options

Anonymous submission

Right now, there's an issue with accessible food on campus. Freshmen are not permitted to eat at Davis Café under meal plan because it slows down food service. They are left with commons and the den. However, the den is only open for lunch, and by the time freshman athletes finish practice, commons is closed as well. Davidson should consider bringing a food vendor to campus under meal plan that operates... more »

Encourage Us to not "Spend Out" Year-End Operating Budget Funds

Submitted by Wendy Raymond

I wish to thank Cindy Hauser for a query long ago that leads to this submission. In collaboration with Ed Kania, I propose we develop incentives for budget managers who are appropriately frugal (that is, they have worked intentionally or have been fortunate to save money on their budget's full portfolio (e.g., energy costs in a particular year were lower because of weather, or a one-time supplies... more »
