The best ideas can come from anywhere.
Do you have an idea that supports one of Davidson's big shifts,? Big or small, all ideas are welcome!Over the next 4 years, the college aims to shift from...
- ...traditional, established paths for student experiences -- to -- adaptable, student-centered experiences & processes
- ...contained reputation and reach -- to -- global reputation, reach, & impact
- ...conventional, siloed organization -- to -- adaptable, diverse, cross-functional & inclusive organization
- ...self-contained -- to -- leverage connections & partnerships with schools & companies
- ...Financial Aid too dependent on Annual Fund -- to -- socio-economic diversity is fiscally assured
My idea stems from being able to have Davis Cafe orders delivered on campus to tables/dorms/study spaces for a small fee. I would imagine it to be very popular, especially to disabled students, should it be on an easily accessible platform and be able to be charged to CatCard balances. This would be a good integration into the online ordering at Davis Cafe. A routing platform could be utilized... more »
I think people should be able to view the number of meal swipes they have left online. This feature is available it's dining dollars and declining balance but not for meal swipes.
Change the name from "dining dollars" to "Wildbucks." Way catchier and everyone would love it. My friends and I already use it at the Union, and the cashiers are big fans.
The circle of greenery in front of Wall is pretty, but people walk through it instead of around it, killing the grass. Can we make a stone path on the dead grass so people only walk here, saving more grass and making the whole thing more aesthetic? It would look similar to the stone path that cuts through the grass in between the Lily Gallery and the library.
Students could take 1-2 classes during the winter break holiday, beginning after Christmas and ending a couple of days before spring semester resumes. Courses could be "fun" courses with topics similar to writing classes now, or could be more serious courses that could count towards a major/minor/WoK requirement.
There are study rooms across campus, and many of them are first-come-first-serve, or they need to be booked through an individual. If there were an app through which you could both book rooms and see which rooms were currently available, it would lower the barriers to booking and make it easier for students to find study rooms and faculty/staff to find meeting places for small groups.
Right now, there's an issue with accessible food on campus. Freshmen are not permitted to eat at Davis Café under meal plan because it slows down food service. They are left with commons and the den. However, the den is only open for lunch, and by the time freshman athletes finish practice, commons is closed as well. Davidson should consider bringing a food vendor to campus under meal plan that operates... more »
I wish to thank Cindy Hauser for a query long ago that leads to this submission. In collaboration with Ed Kania, I propose we develop incentives for budget managers who are appropriately frugal (that is, they have worked intentionally or have been fortunate to save money on their budget's full portfolio (e.g., energy costs in a particular year were lower because of weather, or a one-time supplies... more »
For academic strategic planning, we wish to describe how we will build the faculty of the future - which we are doing right now, for tenure-track faculty we hire today may very well be here in the year 2050 and beyond. We think the faculty of the future can be built by strengthening Davidson's interdisciplinary intersections built on the foundation of strong disciplines. Our interdisciplinarity... more »
